September 20-22, 2015, our Director of Operations Kelley Carter represented Barada Associates at the annual National Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) Conference in Austin, Texas. While she was there, Kelley took the Advanced FCRA Certification test again, passing it and updating her certification. (Congratulations to Kelley!)
The conference was filled with informative sessions, including a legislative update and a General Session on “Mitigating Your Risk for FCRA Litigation.” Kelley networked extensively, also learning several interesting tidbits of information while she was there:
- Attorney Ross Andre of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, LLP, gave a great presentation about a recent FCRA case he litigated where the jury reached a complete defense verdict. The verdict represented a big win for the credit reporting agency, and we will be watching to see if that decision impacts other cases.
- The Plaintiff’s Bar has taken an action relating to full file disclosure. The action asserts that if an applicant requests a copy of his or her background report, hiring companies and credit reporting agencies should provide all documentation relating to the individual. Even if an applicant did not say “full file disclosure,” the action asserts, it should be interpreted that this was the applicant’s intent, but that he or she did not know the correct terminology.
Barada will be attending more events in 2016, and we will be posting that information in advance, here, so stay tuned!
