Background Checks

BACKGOUND CHECKS NEED TO BE DONE ON
ANYONE WHO ENTERS HOMES

A recent article that appeared in The Huffington Post points up the need to conduct background checks on anyone who enters homes, regardless of the service they’re performing.  In this instance, “After hundreds of lawsuits…banks are finally pushing for reform in one of the darkest corners of the housing market.  Under new guidelines expected to be adopted this year by most of the industry, the workers that watch over millions of homes in default or foreclosure will be subject to heightened levels of background checks.”  The problem is many of the “handymen and home inspectors that banks hire to look after vacant properties are breaking into still-occupied homes and looting them of valuables.  Some of these people, who work indirectly for the banks through a web of contracting companies, have lengthy criminal records.”

This latest revelation should be a warning to any employer whose business is to send people into private homes always to make sure a background check is done before making a hiring decision.  The same is also true for homeowners who hire anyone to perform any type of service within their homes.
